James still hadn't told John or Rachel about the notebook he had found in the drawer that day. He hadn't seen the point, as there was nothing conclusive inside. If he couldn't make head nor tail of the information, they wouldn't either. He wanted to have more solid stuff to be able to talk to them about. He didn't even really know where to start either, but had been wanting an excuse to go back and see Samantha at the Magical Remedies shop for a while and since he found out about this town, he knew that the name of the shop could only mean that she was a witch, or someone who dealt with magic. So maybe she'd have a way to help with those missing words. It worth a shot, right?
He didn't even take the car, preferring to get a bit of fresh air, and walked, since it was a nice day. A short time later, he was outside, he pushed the door open gently, with the usual bell tinkling and soon enough Samantha was standing in front of him, smiling brightly. “Well, if it isn't Mr Handsome Sheriff, on foot I see. What can I do for you on this beautiful day?” She wondered if he knew about the town yet or not. She had been so tempted to tell him, but it simply wasn't her place, but since he was still here, she was going to take a guess he didn't know. How wrong she was, she would soon find out. James grinned, “You're going to give me such a big head that I ain't ever gonna get back out that door you know.” He chuckled and walked further into the store.
Sam tilted her head to the side, still smiling, “Would that be such a bad thing? If you couldn't ever leave again?” Oh my god, that was a definite flirt, what was she doing? He had only been here a few weeks and they hadn't interacted all that much, but damn he was fit. James laughed some more, “Well, seeing I have a job to go to and a daughter to take care of, I'd say that it wouldn't be the best thing to happen.” He winked and then brought the notebook out of his inside jacket pocket, the place he kept it to save it from getting wrinkled any more than it already was. “I'm actually wondering if you have some time to spare, to talk to me about this notebook here.” Sam took it from him with an eyebrow risen, “It looks quite old, well, not old, but how can I put it, well worn. It isn't yours?” She hadn't dared to look through it yet, it wasn't her property. James shook his head, “Not mine, I found it in one of the drawer's in my office at the station. It had me intrigued from the moment I seen it as there is so much missing from it. Now that I know all about this place, I am even more so. I think that the information in here could help with a lot of the murders that has been going on here. However, so much of the information is broken, missing.”
Whoa, so, he does know, she thought, letting a low long sigh, in a bit of a relief. Thank god John hadn't taken as long to let James know then he had others before him. “Right. Well, let me close the shop and come through the back. We might as well get comfortable.” She went to the door, locked it, and turned the closed sign round and returned to James. “Can I get you a tea or a coffee? Cookie? Made them myself this morning.” She handed him a box full of chocolate chip ones and he took one immediately, munching and rudely between mouthfuls, said, “These are gorgeous Samantha.” Then he chuckled, finishing a mouthful adding, “Coffee would be great thanks, milk, three sugars thanks.” Sam laughed, “Glad you like them, firstly, call me Sam and secondly, three sugars? Really? Aren't you sweet enough already?” Oh my god, there I go again with the shameless flirting. James shook his head, “Are you always this bold? I'd like to think I was sweet enough but clearly my taste buds think otherwise.” Soon he had the coffee in his hands and he and Sam were both sitting down.
Sam was slowly working her way through the notebook, sipping on her own coffee every so often. “I see what you mean about missing information. To be honest, I'm not really how what I can do to help, other than a reveal spell, but that won't work on the pages that are ripped and torn. It will only work on the obscured words.” She then just realised she had spoken of a spell and hadn't even told him she was a witch, had he worked it out because of the name of the shop after John told him about the town? He must have, surely, he wasn't that daft. “I'm guessing you know I'm a witch then, the title of the shop is a bit of a give away once you know the ins and outs of the place.” She giggled, god, she hadn't done that in ages, she was like a silly school girl in front of him. This was ridiculous, she hadn't flirted like this with any guy before either, it was almost as though she was being drawn to him and had no idea why. “Once I was filled in on this place, the name of your shop did kind of give things away. Just to say, I've not told my daughter yet, I want to try and protect her from it as much as I can, for now anyway.” Sam sighed gently, keeping secrets was never a good thing, not when it came to this place. That's why she had been so mad at John taking so long to tell James, but his daughter was his business, not hers.
However, James had picked up on her sigh, “You think that's the wrong thing? Keeping it from Rori?” He asked and Sam nodded her head and gave him a bit of a smile, “I do yeah, but it's not my business. I just know that secrets are bad in this town. I have pushed for each sheriff to be told about this place from the moment they have arrived. You were no different. I get you want to protect her, but there are a lot of creatures here, and not all of them good. You don't want her finding out the wrong way.” James took that information in and knew that she was right, but at the same time, Rori was his daughter, she was innocent and he wanted to try and keep her that way for as long as possible. “I get where you're coming from, really I just want to get to grips with all of this myself first, I don't plan to keep it from her indefinitely. I could never do that to her. We have such a close relationship and I wouldn't do anything to change that.” Sam smiled, and reached across and squeezed his hand gently, that was as much as she was going to push it, it was up to him. “Do what you think is best. If you need backup when telling her, I'd be happy to do that.” Flipping heck, now she was offering to help with his daughter, like they had known one another for years. What was wrong with her? “I'll keep that in mind thanks Sam. So, this book, reveal spell? You think it will work on some of the smudged writing?” Sam looked back through the book at some of the passages that had smudged words, “I can try, it might not work, but we won't know unless I try. Now you're going to hear me talk in mumbo jumbo, or it will be to you.” She smirked. There was a few pages that had smudged words, she opened the book to two of the pages, lifted her hands above the book and closed her eyes and began the following incantation.
“Paret monitis de potentia in me verba haec revelare.” Her hands let out a bit of a glow as the words were spoken and the pages began to flutter and then slowly the smudged words began to slowly reveal words that began to make proper sentences. Sam pointed, “Not sure if its worked on all of it, might have to do it per page like that, but there you can see clearly the words that were smudged before.” James looked at the page that had been revealed, and wasn't really none the wiser. It was a clear list of names, and in brackets next to the names was species and then whether they had gone missing or were dead. “Are any of those names familiar to you?” He asked Sam, she looked and then nodded her head, “I'm afraid so, most of those names are the ones that either just disappeared or had died. Look, the spell has revealed all of the smudged information and the name on the front of the book, Detective Georgina Campbell.” The name sent shivers down James's spine, the reason it did this was because Rori's mother's maiden name had been Campbell. Of course it might have had no connection whatsoever, but what if it had? Did that mean that, they had relatives that once lived here? The surname might be familiar thanks to his wife's maiden name, but he didn't know the name Georgina. Sam broke into his thoughts, “You've gone a bit pale, are you okay James?” He snapped out of it, “Yeah, sorry, when was there last a Detective Campbell here?” That was the strangest thing about the name, thought Sam, there hadn't been a detective by that name in all the time she had been here, and yet the names in that book, well, not all of them, some of them, had been the most recent names that had either died or gone missing. “I can't recall there ever being a Detective Campbell here in my time, but that doesn't make sense that it would have the names of some of the dead and missing people, it makes even less sense that they have all been written down in a short time frame. I can say that of the names now visible, they have all died or gone missing, but not in a matter of eight weeks. Some of those went missing or died years ago James.”

James was dumbfounded, he could only stare at Sam as she mentioned that of the names listed some of them had gone missing or died years ago. Yet, that book seemed to have them listed in some form of date that would make it seem like it happened in a very short time frame, a couple months at most. He looked at it again, “Something isn't adding up here Sam. Are you sure that some of them died long ago?” Sam nodded, shrugged, “Pretty sure, maybe not long ago, but definitely more than a few years at any rate. Actually, there are names there that I don't even know. How old could this book actually be?” When she had first looked at it, she didn't think that it had been that old, but now she was beginning to think differently.
James shrugged, “I have no idea. It looks like an average notebook to me.” Sam took it back from him, “Let me try something.” She held it in the palm of her hands and closed her eyes, “Ego invocabo matris natura libri huius aetatis revelare.” Once more there was a slight glow and her eyes popped open, “Well, this book is way older than we probably thought. The spell reveals that it's at least sixty years old, and going by that, what we think are dates next to those names? Might not be. What is it's some sort of code?” Just because it looked like dates to the both of them, didn't necessarily mean that it was.
James hadn't even thought about that, but it was possible right? Somebody who didn't want it falling into the wrong hands and being able to understand everything in the book. A lot of people used code words. He nodded, “You might be onto something there Sam, the only problem now is, that I have no idea what the code could stand for. I don't suppose you do, or have a way to find out?” Sam gave him a bit of a sad smile and shook her head, “I have no clue, and my magic can only work on certain things. I could try, let me try.” So once more she held the book and closed her eyes, to concentrate and rattled off another incantation, however, this time there was no white glow and in fact, the book closed over with a thud and flew from her hands. This movement made James jump back out of the way and Sam couldn't help but to giggle with her hand over her mouth. “Sorry, shouldn't laugh, but I'm used to that kind of thing happening. No, I can't find that information out, but what that does tell me is that there is already magic linked to that book and it's highly possible that the person that cast the spell on it will be the only one to break it.” She gave him a bit of a defeatist look, because there would be no way to tell if this book that seemingly belonged to a Georgina Campbell was a witch. Most people within the community were of some form of supernatural element, but not all of them. They had plenty of normal humans too.
James sighed and hung his head, just when he thought that they were getting somewhere with it, he had a wall again. He rubbed at his chin, what was he going to do now. He couldn't go to John and Rachel with this when he had no clear answers on it for them. However, Sam's voice then broke into his thoughts, “You know, there is someone who might be able to give more insight into this book you know. I mean he won't be able to carry out any spell either, but he's a bit of a historian in town, holds onto a lot of artefacts and the like, so, he might actually be able to tell us more about this Georgina Campbell.” God, he was really beginning to love this woman, each time he thought that the path was blocked with this book, Sam cleared it and she was doing it again. “I could kiss you right now. Who is this person?” However, all Sam heard was James saying he could kiss her, and she blinked rapidly as her heart pounded in her chest, “Well, you could you know, if you wanted to.” James was still focusing on the person that could help and he looked at her blankly, “What? Wait, ah, weird name for a person.” He said catching on and playing along with her a little. Though to be fair, there was definitely some chemistry flowing between the both of them and he wasn't finding it unpleasant. He then reached over and planted a kiss on her cheek, “There, so, who is this person?” He asked again, pushing to get back on track, because if he allowed himself to get off this track, finding out more about this book would be the last thing he would want to do. He hadn't been with a woman for a very long time.
Oh yeah there had been a few while he was raising Rori, but none of them had ever matched up to his Carolyn and they had all fizzled out. But it was more to do with the fact that Rori was young and impressionable and he hadn't wanted just anybody coming into her life. It was different now, at seventeen, Rori was fast becoming a young adult, her own woman and maybe it was time for his heart to let someone in again. Sam smiled, “His name is Steve Duquette. He's a great guy, helped me a few times with different things. I'll take you to him if you want.” James smiled, “That would be awesome. Walking distance?” Not that it would bother him if it took them a while to get there, but maybe Sam would prefer to travel by car. However, Sam nodded and smiled, “Well, in a day like this, definitely walking distance. I'll just grab my bag, I never like leaving it in the shop.” So she did that and soon they were both on the way to the library, the place where Steve worked from during the day.
About twenty minutes or so later, they arrived at the library and James held the door open for Sam, which she nodded her head to acknowledge and she guided him towards the back, and soon rapped on an office door, that had a brass plate with the name Professor Steven Duquette – Historian upon it. “Come in.” The voice said, and as she walked in, Steve stood up and enveloped her in a massive hug. “Samantha, lovely to see you, and you've brought a friend. It's about time you got yourself hooked.” He winked and she blushed and shook her head, this made James laugh, and then flashed his badge, “Sheriff actually, but it's good to meet yet another resident of Pandora.” Steve moved forward and took James's hand and shook it, “Pleasure to meet you, hope you're going to last the pace unlike so many before you.” James smiled, “Well considering I know all about this place now and I've not ran, I think you can be safe in knowing that nothing scares me too much.” Steve grinned and slapped him on the back, “Good to hear, good to hear. So, I'm guessing this isn't a social call, how can I help you?” He beckoned for the both of them to take a seat and James pushed the book towards him. “It's this. I found it in a locked drawer in the office at the station they gave me. But there's something about it, it's full of names and what we thought looked like dates next to them. It's basically names of people that have either gone missing or been found dead.” Sam added, “We thought that it had been deaths over a small time frame, but when I used my magic, I found out that the book is like sixty years old at least. It belonged to a Georgina Campbell, I have no idea who that is. She's never been a name known to me in all the time I've been here and that's pretty much most of my life.”
Steve moved closer to them as they continued to talk, really intrigued and ever so glad that Sam had thought to bring James here with this mystery. “I didn't know Georgina either, but I do know the name and I have a book about her right here.” He got up and collected it and sat it back down once more. He flicked through the pages to her biography snippet and began to read it out. Which said the following:-
“Georgina Campbell of Campbell Coven, was the matriarch of the Campbell Coven of Witches. She was born in Pandora along with a line of male and female witches in the family before and after her. As well as a witch, she studied law and became a detective. However, after several years in Pandora, with a husband and four children, she decided that life in Pandora was not for her. She couldn't tolerate the strict rules and left Pandora behind, taking her family with her. Nobody knows where she ended up, but there hasn't been a Campbell in Pandora since. She was later survived by her four children, two sons and two daughters, Thomas, Tristan, Catherine and Celeste. It is said that the line chose the same first name initial for all their brood from that moment on. Georgina started the trend. Nobody knows what happened to the Campbell clan, but none of them have found their way to Pandora since. It is said that Georgina chose to live a different way of life in a new town, but nobody knows where.” He finished and looked across at the both of them, “Does that help any with the name at least?” When Sam looked at James, he was pale again, like he had been back at her shop.
She waved her hand in front of his face, snapping her fingers, “James, you okay? You've gone blank again like earlier.” He snapped out of it, “Sorry, did you say one of those names was a Celeste?” He asked Steve, and he nodded, “I did yeah, that was one of the daughter's of Georgina, I don't know what happened to her.” James still white and feeling a bit light-headed, “I think I do. Celeste was the name of my late wife's mother. Celeste Campbell, my late wife was called Carolyn. Does that mean that, could that, no, it couldn't possibly mean that Rori's grandmother was Celeste, that would mean that Rori was, that can't be right, Rori is Aurora, not a C name...” He trailed off, how stupid was he, Carolyn passed away after giving birth, she hadn't a chance to name their daughter. He had given her the name, as she reminded him so much of the Sleeping Beauty Aurora when she was asleep in his arms. “Rori's a witch? Is that possible? She'd never shown any signs of it. Oh shit, I have been trying to shield her of all of this. I really don't want to have to tell her about this.” It couldn't be right, it must be a different Celeste Campbell surely? There would likely be more than one out there. Wasn't there always plenty of names that were the same? That's why you got given a social security number, as that was your personal identity. No, it couldn't possibly be the same Celeste, he waved his hand, “Forget it, it's probably just the same name, nothing to do with Rori at all. Anyway, so, these numbers next to the names, we thought it was dates, which meant that all those names had gone missing and died in a matter of eight weeks or so, but since Sam was able to determine the book is sixty years old and that some of the names died or went missing years ago, it can't be dates. Have you any idea what that could be? We wondered if it was some sort of code?”
Steve took the book over again, and while he was looking at it, Sam was digesting that information that they had found out. She had seen an aura about James that told her that he wasn't fully human, that he was something else, but she couldn't figure out what, what if he was a supernatural being and had no idea? It was too weird for that Celeste not to be the same one connected to his late wife. Even though there was a few humans in Pandora, the biggest contingent was of some sort of creature, and they were usually drawn here, like some sort of invisible beacon or something. She would have to talk to James about that when they were on their own again, as she wasn't sure he was completely convinced that there was a connection, but she more than certain that there was.
Steve's voice broke into her thoughts, “That is a code by the looks of it, not sure of what type, not of the top off my head. But wait, there's a book about codes also, and I guess I need to look for a code that was out around sixty years ago then.” He got up and started looking through his books and soon returned. “Not sure if this will help or not, but let's see.” He started flicking through the pages looking for anything similar to the numbers that were coming up next to the names. He furrowed his brow, and shook his head, “I can't see anything that resembles. Maybe they are dates you know. Most dates have six digits if they're written with a zero in front if it's a single number, right? There are clearly six digits, we definitely haven't had that many deaths or missing people so close though, it can't be dates.” He was flummoxed with this. He flicked through the book some more and then had a thought. “Actually it might be code, with each number attached to a letter. So one could be the letter A, and maybe whatever it is meant to be is broken into abbreviations. See, that name there, it has twelve, four, nineteen, date wise that would read as the twelfth of April, twenty nineteen right? But what if, it was actually LDS? Abbreviated for something, like a location, the name of someone connected to the death or the disappearance? In fact that sequence pops up a couple of times, look, there, there and there. That's at least three that would come out as LDS... I wonder what that stands for.” This was a definite mystery. As a historian he was lost on this one.
Sam kept running the initials over in her head, and then her eyes popped open, “LDS? Maybe it's not abbreviated for anything, well, I mean as in a town or location, what is it's a letter for something or someone? Somebody who can go by several names? Lucifer, Devil, Satan? LDS?” Well, some had said they were living on hell mouth, James sat forward, “What the actual fuck? Learning of supernatural beings is one thing, but you think that the devil is actually involved in these killings and disappearances?” Sam shrugged, and raised her eyebrows, “I'm not sure, but I know he doesn't like us punishing his own, what if someone out there has been taking it upon themselves over a period of time to take out some of his children as it were and he has returned the favour a few times?” Steve frowned and rubbed at the back of his neck and sat forward, “That's possible I guess, but those letters only appear a few times, not in all of them.” If it was true that the numbers depicted each letter of the alphabet, then they were going to have to sit and crack each set of numbers to see just how often LDS popped up. “Well, I'm free if you fancy cracking on with this?” James knew that he should be doing a circuit of the area, but he felt that getting to the bottom of this was far more important. “Are you free to stay and figure this out Sam?” He asked her and she smiled, nodding, “Sure, let's see if we can find out what all these numbers stand for.”

So the three of them worked on the code and the numbers next to the list of names for the past hour. Most of them were like the first few, just three or four letters. It was pretty obvious that they stood for something. Almost like a shorthand if you will. Although Sam's initial thought had been three different words for the devil, as in Lucifer, Devil and Satan, they realised it could actually have stood for anything. A street name, town, anything. One thing that they knew for certain, the book was the property of this Georgina Campbell and that she was a witch and the head one of a strong line of witches. “So, we have LDS written eight times in total, could that be significant to Lucifer? Who knows. Then we have about five with WPM, the same again with HNV and the rest all comes out at UTT. Any ideas on any of those?” Steve asked to both Sam and James.
Sam shook her head, she was lost. The only reason why the LDS one came to her so quickly was that living in a town like this, Lucifer was the most prominent creature people thought of. “It depends how we're going to be looking at it I suppose. If we're going on the possibilities of who carried out the murders, maybe Wolf Pack Murder for the WPM, not sure on HNV or UTT.” James was rubbing at the back of his neck, it was great that they figured out that this might have been code, but was it really giving him the real answers? He couldn't be sure. “HNV, don't suppose we have vampires living here?” He asked looking from Sam to Steve, and they both looked at each other before turning back to him and nodding, “We do, yeah, but a lot of different varieties. They aren't all the typical blood sucking type and of the ones that are, well, they either drink synthetic blood, animal blood from already dead animals or a legal blood bank. But we have vamps that suck on energy and emotions and most of them can walk around in the day time as they have special jewellery that allows them to do so. We even have some that can procreate. Vampires are a huge variety. Why do you ask though?” Steve replied which probably shouldn't have surprised James what with the town being full of supernatural beings. He had hoped that vampires might not have been included, but clearly they were. “Well, if Sam thinks that WPM might be wolf pack murder or member by the way, then maybe HNV stands for holes, neck, vampire? If we're still going with the whole shorthand thing.”
Steve nodded his head, that did make sense, if they were going down the right road with the code and it being some form of shorthand. “That's possible. It would be great if we could talk to one of the Campbell witches, because if anybody is going to know what this means it might very well be them.” He wasn't referring to James's daughter, but of the ones that would have been closer to Georgina, as no doubt the book had been passed down through generations of the Campbell Coven. “So that just leaves UTT if we're still going down the right route, no idea about that at all.” Added Steve, he looked at Sam, “Don't suppose there is any other spell that could help us crack this code? Or even a spell that could bring forth a witch, or even Georgina herself?” He knew that really strong witches could contact the other side, and if that was the case, then maybe they just needed to talk to Georgina's spirit. Sam hadn't tried to do that. She was what she classed as a white witch, that meant her powers were light and she didn't want to ever cross to the dark magic side. “I'm not sure Steve. Never tried to contact the other side before. I've always classed my magic as light, it takes a really powerful witch to contact the other side. Dark magic.” James reached across and took her hands in his and gave them a bit of a squeeze. “I hardly know you, yet, but I can already tell that even if you went into the darker part of your powers you are too good to let it consume you. Why don't you give it a try?”
Sam looked down at James's hands holding her own, and her heart fluttered, she really was beginning to lose herself to him, and he had said such a beautiful thing to her. “You have more faith in me than I do myself. I'll try.” She closed her eyes, and James gently let go of her hands, and she turned them so that they were palm up and began to quietly mutter an inaudible incantation and as she did so, the furniture in Steve's office began to shake. The pages of the books on his desk began to flutter, the same as the notebook that they were trying to figure out. Books began to fall off of the shelves, the whole office was quaking, almost like they were going through the tremors of an earthquake aftershocks.
James noticed that a tiny bit of blood was beginning to trickle from Sam's nose, and he wondered if he should try to stop her, but wasn't sure if that would do more damage than good. He wasn't in tune with her and her witch magic yet. So he decided to let her be, meanwhile Steve was jumping up and putting things back onto shelves, and put a paperweight onto the notebook to save it from getting damaged. James looked over, “Is dark magic always like this?” He asked, and Steve shrugged, “I wouldn't know mate, never witnessed it before.” Then as quickly as it had started, it all calmed down and a figure began to appear in front of them, washed out, but definitely standing in front of them.
It began to talk in a very haunting voice, “Who dared to call me here?” Georgina spoke, looking around the three of them and sniffing and finally falling onto Sam, knowing that she was the only with among them. She could tell what the other two were as well, one was a were-panther and the other was most definitely fae. But she was only concerned with the one that had called her here. Eyes almost burning through Sam, and pointing, “You, you were the one, what it is that you seek child.” She said, and Sam opened her eyes and was surprised that she had managed to do it and she still felt like herself. “I'm sorry for calling you madam, but we wish to seek your help for a book that we believe belonged to yourself.” Georgina's head snapped round when Steve held up the book, “Ah, so it was found, that can only mean that a Campbell heir is once again living in Pandora.” She wasn't sure who it was, but something told her that the one that smelled of fae was new to Pandora, and she pointed to him, to James, “You, you're new here are you not? I sense it.” James's mouth open and closed a few times, unable to form a sentence, “Speak boy, for goodness sake, do you not know mother earth's language.” Steve started to chuckle, well seeing she was from an era that was before their time, however one look from Georgina got him to stop quick smart, she was not to be messed with it would seem.
James finally spoke, “Yes, I am the new sheriff madam.” Georgina put her hand up, “No need with the formalities, I'm surprised you are still here as it is now obvious that you are staying. You have a child?” James nodded, eyebrow risen, “Yes.” He said slowly, “Whether boy or a girl, then the reason the book has been made visible, is because a Campbell heir is in Pandora and that can only mean your child, as it is most definitely not you.” James was affronted, why could it not be him, not that it was, but how could she be so sure? “I have a daughter, but why would you know it wasn't me?” Georgina laughed a little, “Because my dear boy you are fae, not Wiccan.” James's mouth fell open and stayed like that for a few seconds longer than he liked and then pointed to himself, gathering himself together, “Me? I'm what now?” Sam sighed, and smiled, she knew there had been something about his aura that told her he wasn't quite human. “Fae boy, fae, you do not know what that means? Faerie.” James shook his head and couldn't help but to say, “I'm a fucking fairy?” Not realising that there was a specific spelling of it, saying it in the typical school girl fairy loving way. “Yes, fae, you will have extraordinary powers, but yes, it must be your child that is the Campbell heir. What is it about the book that you need help with?” She asked, and because she was only in spirit form, she couldn't touch it, she needed to be corporeal form, and going by the strength of magic that it took the girl to bring her in this form, she wouldn't be able to make her corporeal.
Steve spoke up, as it would seem that James was knocked side ways with the news that he was supernatural himself. “There is a list of names with numbers next to them. At first James thought it was dates, but we reckon it's some sort of code, possibly the numbers relating to a letter of the alphabet. Are we right?” Steve asked, hoping that they might be and that would be the end of the mystery, well, hopefully, once they knew if they were right about the initials or abbreviations. Georgina wondered if anybody would have been clever enough to work out the code she had started, basically it was a form of shorthand, but by doing it with numbers relating to the alphabet, it was more difficult to solve. “You are right. Each number correlates to a letter of the alphabet. I already know that you have LDS, WPM, HNV and UTT, am I right? I don't know if anything else will have been added unless there was another Campbell I am unaware of in Pandora until now.” Sam shook her head, “No Campbell in my time at least.” Steve joined in, “Not since you and then you left.” Georgina nodded, “So it will have been all mine then...” Sam interjected, “Except some of the deaths have been a lot more recent, as in a few months ago, a few years ago. You've not been a part of Pandora for a long time if I'm not mistaken.” The girl was right, so how could that be so, how could someone have been working on that book, “I'm afraid I can't speak for the recent deaths, and I have no idea why they would be in that book as I had a spell cast on it not to be revealed until another Campbell was in Pandora, unless there was a Campbell incognito, that the book was revealed to. So, have you managed to work out what the letters stand for?” She asked, wondering just how clever they had been.
James spoke up now, “We struggled, not going to lie, Sam thought that LDS stood for the three names of the devil, Lucifer, Devil and Satan, possibly Werewolf Pack Murder or Member and Holes, Neck, Vampire, totally torn over the UTT one.” She bowed her head a little and clasped her hands together, they were very good indeed. “I am impressed, you have done well at depicting the code. Let me fill you in a little more. WPM was werewolf pack murder, not member, and it meant that the deceased was a member of the wolf pack. HNV was indeed holes in the neck, vampire, as in was it possible that a vampire had killed that person, but back in my time the vampires were all fully controlled, and not into taking lives, so that was always questionable. UTT, stood for unable to tell, in other words, could never figure out what had caused the death. I tried to get help on many an occasion, but kept getting shunted, and in the end, I couldn't deal with life in the community any more and so I had to leave. Now that you know what the code means, I do hope that you will be able to get to the bottom of those deaths, even if it has been a long time, I am sure closure will be good for people.” She bowed her head once more and looking across at Sam, “You can let me go now child, you are draining fast.” Then Georgina was gone like a puff of smoke.
Steve looked at James, “So, has that helped?” However, James couldn't answer him, for Sam had collapsed, and he reached over and caught her, to save her from falling onto the floor. “Georgina did say she was draining. Have you seen this happen to her before Steve?” Steve shook his head, “No, I've not, I'm not sure what to do, maybe just let her sleep it off? If she doesn't come round in a short time, call this number, they will be able to help you.” James took it, wondering who it belonged to, there was nothing else on the card other than the number. “Cheers. Thanks for the help Steve, I'll take her back, and I'll call you and let you know how she is.” Steve smiled and nodded, “Thanks.” With that he handed James a business card, “Call me any time you might need my help.” James then scooped Sam up into his arms and carried her all the way back to his own home, as he had no idea where she lived as of yet. He gently placed her onto the sofa, and sat across from her, keeping a close eye on her.
He had the notebook with him again, and was flicking through it, now that he had knew what the code stood for, and what the letters meant, he felt that he could finally talk to John and Rachel about it, and maybe they might be able to get to the bottom of it. Then he realised that Georgina hadn't told them what LDS stood for, she said they were wrong on a few counts, but she hadn't went over the LDS, so did that mean they were right about that, or wrong? One thing was for sure, he wasn't going to allow Sam to put herself through that kind of draining exercise again, they will figure it out, they just had to.
Twenty minutes had maybe passed when out the corner of his eye, he seen movement, and when he glanced over, Sam was finally coming round. “Hey girl, you had me spooked. You feeling okay?” She slowly sat up, “Yeah, just a little drained, I think the magic took a lot out of me, I'm not used to delving into the deeper darker side of my magic.” She looked around and realised she was not at her own home, but why would she be, James didn't know where she lived yet. “This is your home? I've never had the luck of being in here before, it's amazing, just as stunning inside as it is outside.” James got up and sat beside her, pushing some of her hair away from her eyes, “Are you sure you're okay? You gave me a scare.” She smiled and placed a hand on his face, “I'm fine Mr Handsome Sheriff, but I could do with a nice hot sugary drink, don't suppose you have some hot chocolate going please?” James winked, “Anything for you.” He kissed her on the cheek, “I'll be back with it, just you rest, thanks for you help today.” Sam smiled, “You're welcome and thank you, but to mirror your own words, anything for you.” He grinned and then disappeared to make the drink for her.
